Golden light on old stone, long tables under olive trees, a ceremony that ends with espresso and spritz: Italy is the most-loved wedding destination in Europe for a reason. I am a wedding photographer based in Zurich — close enough to reach any Italian region in a few hours, far enough to bring an outside eye to la dolce vita. If you are planning a villa wedding on a lake, an elopement in Tuscany or a family celebration in the south, I would love to travel with you.

## Why couples cross the border for Italy

Italy gives a wedding three things that are hard to find anywhere else:

- **Light.** The warm, low evening light of the Mediterranean makes skin tones glow and turns every terrace into a stage for portraits.
- **Places with patina.** Villas, monasteries, vineyards and piazzas that have hosted celebrations for centuries — backdrops no ballroom can imitate.
- **A culture of celebration.** Long dinners, loud toasts, dancing outdoors until late: Italian weddings give a photographer real moments all day long.

For couples from Switzerland, Italy is also refreshingly practical: a short flight or even a drive away, in the same time zone, with many venues used to international guests.

## Regions I love to photograph

Every region tells a different story — these are the classics couples ask about most:

- **The northern lakes** — Como, Maggiore and Garda: dramatic villas, boat arrivals and mountains meeting the water. The closest option to Switzerland.
- **Tuscany** — agriturismi, cypress alleys and hilltop towns around Florence and Siena; the archetype of the relaxed countryside wedding.
- **The Amalfi Coast** — terraces above the sea, lemon groves and that famous blue hour over the water.
- **Sicily and Puglia** — baroque towns, masserie and the warmest light of the country; ideal for multi-day celebrations.

Your venue is somewhere else entirely? Even better — new places sharpen the eye. Tell me where, and I will be there the day before to scout it.

## How it works with a photographer from Zurich

Travelling photographers are only a good idea when the logistics are invisible for you. My setup for Italy:

1. **One contact from the first call to the finished gallery** — no agency, no middlemen.
2. **Arrival the day before.** I never fly in on the wedding morning. The evening before, I walk the venue, check the light and talk through the final timeline with you.
3. **Scouting included.** Ceremony spot, portrait locations, sunset direction — planned before your day, not improvised during it.
4. **Travel agreed upfront.** All travel arrangements are fixed transparently with you in advance, so there are no surprises.

Planning happens comfortably by video call — most of my Italy couples I meet in person for the first time at the welcome dinner.

## Elopements and small weddings in Italy

Italy is not only for big celebrations. Some of the strongest images happen when it is just the two of you: a ceremony on a quiet terrace, portraits in empty alleys at sunrise, dinner for two above the sea. If you are thinking small, have a look at my page on [elopement photography](/weddings/elopement-photographer-switzerland) — everything there about how I plan intimate ceremonies applies to Italy as well.

And if you are still comparing countries: as a photographer I work on both sides of the border — here is my overview as a [wedding photographer in Switzerland](/weddings/wedding-photographer-switzerland), from mountain ceremonies to lakeside weddings.

## Frequently asked questions — weddings in Italy

### Do you travel to all regions of Italy?

Yes. From the lakes to Sicily — distance within Italy is a question of planning, not a problem.

### We do not live in Switzerland. Does planning still work?

Absolutely — planning happens by video call wherever you are. Many destination couples live in a third country anyway.

### Do you know our venue?

Maybe — but I never rely on that. I scout every venue the day before the wedding, so the plan is based on how the light actually falls on your weekend.

### Which languages do you speak?

German and English. For coordination with Italian vendors on the day, the essentials have always worked — wedding days speak a universal language.

### Can you photograph and film?

Yes, photo and film come from one team — especially valuable abroad, where every additional traveling vendor adds complexity.

### How far in advance should we book?

Italian venues and the surrounding vendors are booked early for May to September — as soon as your date and venue are fixed, it is worth checking availability.
