WEDDINGS ACROSS SWITZERLAND

Wedding Photographer in Switzerland — Cities, Lakes and Alps

Switzerland packs an absurd variety into a very small country: medieval old towns, turquoise lakes, vineyard terraces and four-thousand-metre peaks — all within a few hours of each other. I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Zurich, and I photograph weddings in every corner of it. My style is honest and unobtrusive: real moments over stiff poses, your day as it actually felt. This page is the overview for international and English-speaking couples — every region I cover, one click away.

How I work — wherever your wedding takes place

The location changes; the approach doesn’t:

  • Documentary first — I photograph what happens, quietly and without interrupting your day. The directed part is a single relaxed couple session, timed for the best light.
  • English or German — the whole process works in either language, from the first video call to your finished gallery.
  • One photographer, the whole country — I travel to every region of Switzerland, and to destination weddings beyond it. Distance is never the reason to settle for a photographer you don’t love.
  • Photo and film from one team — if you want your day in motion too, both come from a single point of contact with one consistent style.

City weddings — Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne, Geneva

Switzerland’s cities are compact, walkable and full of character — perfect for weddings that move from registry office to old town to lakeside in a single afternoon:

  • Zurich — my home base: the old town, the lake and rooftop views.
  • Basel — Rhine promenades and one of the most beautiful town halls in the country.
  • Bern — UNESCO Old Town, the Rose Garden and the green loop of the Aare.
  • Lucerne — the Chapel Bridge, the lake and mountains on the doorstep.
  • Geneva — international weddings between lake, old town and vineyards.

Mountain and lake weddings — the big Swiss scenery

If you’re coming to Switzerland for the landscape, these pages show what’s possible:

Elopements and intimate weddings

A growing number of my couples skip the big party entirely: just the two of them, a mountain ledge or a lakeshore, perhaps an officiant and two witnesses. Switzerland is one of the world’s great elopement destinations — compact, safe, spectacular. On my page about elopements in Switzerland you’ll find how such a day unfolds, from sunrise plans to legal-versus-symbolic ceremonies (the formalities are simpler than you’d think — and I’ll gladly point you to the right official resources for your situation).

FAQ — getting married in Switzerland as an international couple

Can foreigners get married in Switzerland?

Yes — many international couples marry here every year. The civil ceremony at a Swiss registry office is the legally binding part; requirements and paperwork depend on your nationalities and residence, so check with the registry office (Zivilstandsamt) of your chosen town early — they are used to international requests.

Many couples combine a small civil ceremony with a symbolic celebration — does that work?

Very well. Some marry legally at home and hold their ceremony in the Swiss mountains; others do the civil part here and celebrate the next day at a venue. Photographically, both work beautifully — I cover each format regularly.

Which region should we choose?

Ask yourselves: city charm, lake, or mountains? If you can't decide — Switzerland is small. Ceremony in a city, couple session in the Alps the next morning is a completely realistic plan.

When is the best season?

June to September for green alpine scenery, September/October for golden vineyards and quiet venues, December to March for snow. There is no bad season — only different pictures.

Do you travel for destination weddings outside Switzerland?

Yes — I regularly photograph weddings abroad. Ask me about your destination.

How far in advance should we book?

For Saturdays in high season, 9–12 months ahead is wise; short-notice weekday ceremonies and elopements are often possible much later.
